A crowded mountain can make silverback gorillas more violent
FILE - In this Sept. 2, 2019, file photo, a silverback mountain gorilla named Segasira walks in the Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda. Mountain gorillas spend most of their time sleeping, chomping leaves and wild celery stalks, and grooming each otherโs fur with long, dexterous fingers. Around that time, three large family groups splintered into multiple smaller units, and the overall population also grew. The dissolution of the larger family groups โ one had included 65 individuals โ was probably related to the deaths of charismatic silverback leaders, said Stoinski.
