Houston parents charged in connection with deaths of infant twins

Both children had severe injuries, autopsies show

Houston Police have filed charges against the mother and father of baby twins in connection with their deaths on Oct. 4, 2023.

Angelina Belinda Calderon, 21, and Fernando Vega, 21, have been charged with two counts of injury to a child-serious bodily injury.

Houston Police went to the family’s home on the 2100 block of Linden Creek Way on Oct. 4 about two infants being found unresponsive. Paramedics pronounced the infants dead at the scene.

An autopsy by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences determined the infants suffered blunt force trauma.

According to the charging instruments filed against both Calderon and Vega, forensic specialists observed multiple severe injuries to both children from the autopsies.

One child was suffering from dehydration and had multiple fractured bones, as well as contusions on the head, torso and arms. The other child had bruising on the forehead, arms and legs, as well as fractures of the rib, collarbone and frontal head. Some of the injuries appeared to be older than others.

Both suspects are currently in jail with $750,000 bonds. Calderon and Vega will next appear in court on April 22 for a bail review.
